School of Economics
School of Economics (SE) of Hunan Agricultural University originated from the Department of Agriculture in 1951 and was officially established in January 2006.
SE is a teaching and research-oriented school that integrates economics, management and other disciplines, which bears a multi-level and multi-standard talent training system with doctoral, master, and undergraduate programs.
SE has one post-doctoral research station for Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management, one first-category doctoral program for Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management (AFEM), one first-category master program for AFEM, and two professional master programs for Finance and Agriculture (Rural Development). SE has four undergraduate programs for AFEM, Economics, Finance and Investment. In addition, SE has one Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) innovative experimental specialty of finance and “3+1+1” international cooperation training platform.
SE has 71 faculty and staff members, including 16 professors and 28 associate professors, of all the teachers, 47 are Ph.D. holders. SE has 8 full-time doctoral supervisors, 30 full-time master supervisors, one recipient of the Special Allowances of the State Council of China, one candidate of the National Hundred Thousands of Talents Program, two candidates of the New Century Excellent Talents Project of MOE and one member of Professional Teaching Steering Committee of MOE for Agriculture-forestry Economic Management, one of the first-level candidates of Hunan 121 Talents Project, two candidates of the “100-Expert Project” of Philosophy and Social Science Research in Hunan Province, four discipline leaders of colleges and universities in Hunan Province and seven young backbone teachers of Hunan Province.
SE adheres to the motto “rich in knowledge and spirits, reward to society and country” and follows the purpose of “establishing the school by prioritizing academic power; strengthening the school by promoting talents, prospering the school by advancing developments”. SE sticks to the educational philosophy of integrity of ability and morals, follows the talent training model of cultivating students with wide range, solid foundation, strong skills, characteristics and openness, vigorously promotes quality education as well as innovative and entrepreneurship education to build the SE into a high-level teaching and research-oriented school with international visions.

Scientific Research and Social Services
Scientific Research platforms
SE has two research platforms, which are the Rural Development Research Institute (RDRI) of HUNAU and Research Base of “Three Rural Issues” (RBTRI) of Hunan Province.
l RDRI of HUNAU
RDRI of HUNAU is an academic institution specializing in the study of rural development issues，with Professor Zeng Fusheng as the chief director. It was granted as one of key research bases for universities in terms of philosophy and social sciences in Hunan Province, in November 2004, by Department of Education of Hunan Province.
RDRI has 32 researchers, of whom 21 bear senior professional titles, 24 are Ph.D. degree holders , and one recipient of the Special Allowances of the State Council of China, one candidate of the National Hundred Thousands of Talents Project, two candidates of the New Century Excellent Talents Project of MOE. In recent years, the researchers have devoted themselves to the study of rural issues and hosted over 180 projects of national, provincial and ministerial projects. Moreover, our researchers have won six philosophy and social science outstanding achievements awards of Hunan Province, and published more than 400 academic papers, and over 30 monographs, providing a powerful decision-making reference for governments to make agricultural and rural development strategies and related policies.
l RBTRI of Hunan Province
RBTRI of Hunan Province is an academic research institution that studies the issues of “agriculture, farmers and rural areas”. In October 2004, RBTRI was approved officially as one of the first batch of key research bases for humanities and social sciences in Hunan Province. Professor Zhou Qingming is in charge of the base.
RBTRI has 29 full-time senior researchers, over 20 part-time senior researchers and more than 100 postgraduates. RBTRI has one recipient of the Special Allowances of the State Council of China, one candidate of the National Hundred Thousands of Talents Project, two candidates of the New Century Excellent Talents Project of MOE. The researchers have undertaken over 130 on-going research projects, including over 20 national projects, and have won 10 provincial and ministerial awards, and published over 700 academic papers and over 80 academic monographs and textbooks. In addition, RBTRI has actively submitted research reports and suggestions to relevant government departments for decision-making, nearly 30 of them are accepted. It has become a significant policy-advising center on decision-making related to economic and social development of rural areas in Hunan Province.
In recent years, the faculty of SE has received more than 200 scientific research projects with scientific research funding exceeding 14 million Yuan. Among them, there are more than 20 national natural science and social science research projects, three doctoral fund projects of MOE, one New Century Excellent Talents Project of MOE, two post-doctoral projects, six humanities and social science projects of MOE and five projects of the MOAg as well as nine provincial key projects. Teachers of SE have published over 60 monographs and textbooks by Commercial Press, People's Publishing House etc. and more than 250 CSSCI articles. With active promotion of international agricultural cooperation teachers have won five provincial scientific research achievement awards and two provincial teaching and research awards.
