School of Sports and Arts
School of Sports and Arts (SSA) was established in December 2005 by the combination of the Department of Physical Education and Aesthetic Education of Hunan Agricultural University, the School of Horticultural Landscape and the Art Design Major of the School of Humanities. It focuses on the undergraduate education in sports and arts while completing the teaching of public sports and art courses and carrying out mass sports widely, and enlarging the postgraduate programs to cultivate senior special talents in sports and arts for the need of the development of economy and society.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school will strive to build itself into a high-level teaching and research-oriented school with certain influence and strong comprehensive strength both inside and outside the province, taking the idea of stable scale, connotation development, key breakthroughs and distinctive features as its development ideas.
SSA has more than 70,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor sports venues like standard plastic track and field courts, tennis courts and comprehensive gymnasiums. It also has more than 10 modern laboratories and workshops, including laboratory of human body science in sports, environmental design, product design and visual art design functional laboratories. SSA has more than 14 million Yuan of teaching instruments and equipment to fully meet the needs of teaching and scientific research.
SSA has 85 faculty and staff members, including 68 full-time teachers, among them are seven professors and 26 associate professors, 14 master's supervisors, three PhDs, five PhD candidates and 62 postgraduates. It has two national social sports coaches, 1 international referee, three national referees and 16 first-class national referees. SSA has four recipients of the Youth Backbone Teachers in Provincial Colleges and Universities of Hunan Province, and two backbone teachers in HUNAU.

Over the past three years, SSA has hosted two national social science fund research projects, 15 provincial research projects and 37 university projects, edited and published 28 monographs and textbooks, 256 papers. SSA has directed students to win 48 gold, silver and bronze medals in national college sports competitions and 129 gold, silver and bronze medals in provincial competitions. SSA has won 4 national and 31 provincial awards for art and design works.
